What is your all-time holiday movie favorite?
Here’s two of mine:

It’s A Wonderful Life

And a third one…I’m not sure this is a Christmas movie, but I watched it a few years back while caring for grandchildren for a few days around holiday time.
What a snorter! And it’s a good thing it was so funny, because the youngest grand-dude insisted on watching it with me at least twice a day! 🙂

Zootopia
I don’t remember ever laughing so hard at a cartoon, even as a child. (I think this sloth scene was the best…)
Over to you, Killzoners! Your favorite holiday movie…
This is my last TKZ post for 2025. See you in 2026…and I hope you have a safe, peaceful, and joyful holiday season, my friends!
Miracle on 34th Street.
John Payne, Maureen O’Hara, little Natalie Wood…and Edmund Gwen as Kris Kringle (winning Best Supporting Actor)
Good morning, Jim.
I should have mentioned Miracle as a fave. Great plot, theme, and actors. They don’t make ’em like that anymore… 🙁
Hope you and your family circle up and have a wonderful Christmas, my friend!
One of the YouTube channels I follow is “Hollywood Graveyard” which is more about the pioneers of the movie industry than just looking at graves of famous people. Arthur Dark, the creator, and some other people found Edmund Gwen’s long lost ashes in the columbarium equivalent of Lost & Found. They raised funds to give him a proper niche and plaque. Their Christmas service last year to dedicate the niche actually brought me to tears, and almost nothing does.
👍👍👍
I don’t watch that many movies, but my annual holiday tradition is watching the MacGyver episode “The Maddonna”.
And while not holiday related, my goal while on Christmas break is to break out and re-watch Star Trek II, III, and IV. Star Trek TOS is one of the most quotable shows of all time—if you get a bunch of Trek fans together they can pretty much quote you Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan from start to finish. LOL!
I don’t know if it happens as much when you read books vs. watching a movie, but I think it would be cool to write a book that had a line so memorable that people quoted it. 😎
Hi Brenda!
I am not familiar with that MacGyver episode, but I enjoyed the series. Wacky stuff!
We have all the ST movies, and are presently watching the ’60s series. I hadn’t realized that there were so many cultural themes embedded in the episodes, but I’m sure hearing them now.
I agree about quotable lines. There’s one in my novel, No Tomorrows, that I think (IMHO) 🙂 could be quotable.
“Death doesn’t end life–never has.”
Hey, you and yours have a wonderful Christmas season and the happiest of New Years!
I’ll go with Miracle and Wonderful Life, but have to add National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation… Clark & my dad had to be related when it came to tree and house decorating… (not that this apple has fallen too far from the proverbial…).
Merry merry one and all, and enjoy the break…
Good morning, George.
I’ve never seen Christmas Vacation. Sounds like it might be good. I looked up the plot, and yep, sounds good.
I hope you and yours have a lovely, peaceful Christmas break.
The last movie I watched was Phantom of the Opera so you can tell I don’t watch a lot of movies, but I have friends who insist that I watch The Christmas Story this year. Years ago I watched It’s A Wonderful Life and since I’ve watched it more than once I’d have to say it’s my favorite.
Hi Pat…
I think it’s been a couple of decades since I watched POTO. A good one for sure. And, can’t go wrong with It’s A Wonderful Life!
Thanks for dropping in this morning, and have a wonderful Christmas. 🙂
Not traditional Christmas movies, but my favorites are The Holiday (an incredible cast with Jack Black, Jude Law, Cameron Diaz and Kate Willett, Eli Wallach, and Rufus Sewell) and The Family Stone (although it’s a tear-jerker it’s still funny, poignant, about healing family wounds, and has a stellar cast including Diane Keaton, one of my favorites.) We watch The Christmas Story every year, sometimes more than once, Pat. My kids loved it growing up.
Merry Christmas, Kelly!
My daughter keeps telling me I should watch The Christmas Story. Maybe this is the year…
Have a wonderful end to 2025. 🙂
I love The Holiday – I’ve watched it again and again.
“Yes, I am … Daddy.” Best line ever.
Good morning, Jane! Thanks for dropping in this morning.
I think I’m going to have to add The Holiday to my TBW list, since it’s been mentioned more than once today. 🙂
Have a wonderful Christmas!
I’m going with three: “It’s A Wonderful Life,” “A Christmas Story,” and yes, “Die Hard,” which has plenty of Christmas vibe amidst the riveting action plot.
Hans Gruber: “It’s Christmas, Theo. It’s the time of miracles. So be of good cheer… and call me when you hit the last lock.”
Happy Holidays, Deb! See you in 2026!
Hi Dale…
We just watched Die Hard! I was surprised to learn it was nominated for 4 academy awards. And, IMHO, Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber) is the best bad guy ever…
Happy Holidays to you too, and I’ll see you ’round the bend… 🙂
We are partial to A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim and It’s a Wonderful Life.
I’ve read that Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol in just six weeks, and it was one of several Christmas stories he wrote. I haven’t read any of the others.
Hi, Kay!
A Christmas Carol has to be on everyone’s list, right?
6 weeks??? Wow! Wish I could do that… 🙂
Oh, and BTW, I did download one of Randy Ingermanson’s novels this morning. Thanks for the tip! Happy Christmas to you and yours…
Happy Christmas to you and your family!!
Dickens was in a serious financial crunch, and he needed a bestseller. He had it printed himself. Watch THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS which follows Dickens through the creation process as things in his life and what he sees wandering around London become the building blocks of the story.
Hi Marilyn,
Hey, thanks for the tip! That sounds really interesting.
🙂
+1 on Marilynn’s recommendation—it’s an engaging and revealing movie.
Currently my favorites are Christmas with the Chosen: Holy Night, The Santa Clause, and A Crown for Christmas (an older Hallmark movie).
Good morning, Michelle…
I’m getting some holiday movie tips this morning for sure! I’ve seen The Santa Clause, but not the other two.
Thanks for adding to the Christmas cheer this morning, and hope you have a blessed season. 🙂
Definitely IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE because it shows how much one decent person can change others’ lives. Something I truly believe. I’ve read about how this movie was deeply personal to Jimmy Stewart who came home from the War and was dealing with PTSD. His character’s brokenness wasn’t acting.
Those younger than us Boomers swear by A MUPPET’S CHRISTMAS CAROL as the best Dickens’ adaption.
Also, as mentioned in an earlier comment, THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS about Dickens’ life during his creation process of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Most writers will recognize the process.
I’d forgotten about The Man Who Invented Christmas. I’ll have to watch that one again.
Agreed, Marilyn.
Love that movie…life on earth at its best.
Have a wonderful Christmas season!
I’ll be the weird one out… It’s A Wonderful Life, yes, absolutely. Die Hard, too. But the one I watch every year, oddly, is Tim Burton’s (who I’m not normally a huge fan of) Nightmare Before Christmas. For me it just captures the real sentiment of the holiday by contrasting it with the ridiculously silly world of poor Jack Skellington. The singing’s pretty fun, too!
Another one to add to my TBW pile…thanks, Justine!
Have a wonderful Christmas…and no nightmares, K?
😉
the holiday calendar on netflix, it’s a hallmark type christmas movie that deconstructs and then reconstructs hallmark type christmas movies, also i highly recommend zootopia one and two
👍👍👍
