Authors are a curious species. By that, I mean we’re curious about the world around us, not that we’re weird! Ahem!
This is a link to a really cool site that will make you curiouser and curiouser. https://www.rd.com/list/weird-facts/

Did you know that Donald Duck’s legal name is Donald Fauntleroy Duck? True story. (From Wikipedia)
And Walt Disney was the first voice of Mickey Mouse? And Mickey was the first non-human Oscar winner.
Or, how about this—Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz was originally a blonde, but the powers that were thought it made her look not so much like a Kansas farm girl.
All true.
But, here’s the one I really like, because I’m one of those height-challenged folks.
People are taller in the morning than they are at night. Really!

“When you wake up in the morning, you’re about one centimeter taller. That’s because at night when you’re lying down, the spine stretches and decompresses. But throughout the day, the soft cartilage between your bones gets squashed and compressed…”
So, at least in the mornings I can claim to be tall . . . cool!
TKZers . . . what weird, random fact can you share with us this morning? And how will you write it into the story you’re working on?
Didn’t know Dorothy was supposed to be a blonde, but I knew the rest. Thanks for the link; made for some entertaining morning reading. Who knew it was possible to make a diamond out of peanut butter?
Hi Terry!
Guess I missed the peanut-butter-to-diamonds one. We always have lots of peanut butter on hand, so maybe we should check it out.
Have a great day!
The last POTS telephone service line was installed in September 2022. As of 12/31/2025 phone companies will not be required to support POTS lines. Monthly service is going to jump in price.
What is POTS? POTS is traditional 8 wire phone lines. It replaced 4 wire service in the 1970s.
Why is it called POTS? Plain Old Telephone Service.
Hi Alan,
Ha! Never heard of POTS…glad we don’t have a line anymore, but I’m sure they’ll figure out a way to punish us. 🙂
Have a good one!
Fun fact: U.S. dimes, quarter dollars and half dollars have reeded edges in order to thwart clipping, a practice used to shave silver from circulating silver coins since at least Middle Ages. While our circulating dimes and quarters stopped being 90% silver and became cupronickel in 1964, and the half dollar was 40% silver until 1968, the practice remains.
While I don’t have any ideas at the moment for a story using this idea, I can imagine an historical crime story featuring clipping–someone’s probably already written it.
Hi Dale!
I was sure I’d learn some stuff from TKZers this morning, and your comment fits that bill for sure. (How hard some people work to not have a job…)
Have a good weekend!
Fun blog, Deb. Here’s one: Women in Allied countries wore red lipstick because Hitler hated it, so red lipstick was a sign of resistance. Take that, Taylor Swift!
In local news, a Kevin the Minion plushy (DESPICABLE ME) blocked the sewage for an entire neighborhood after being flushed by a toddler. Poor Kevin’s body type is perfect as a plug. You now have a means to annoy your poor stalked heroine and her neighborhood.
