Reader (and Watcher) Friday-Who Are You?

If you could jump into any novel/story/movie as the hero or anti-hero—man, woman, or beast—who (or what) would you be?

I’d like to be Q (or Q-ess) from Star Trek. A character with unlimited powers, until he ran into Captain Picard, that is.

How about the rest of you? Anyone from Lassie to Scarlett to Scout is fair game!

  1. My favorite character of all time is Mr. Spock.

    There’s a line from the opening credits of “The Six Million Dollar Man” where you hear Richard Anderson as Oscar Goldman talking about rebuilding Steve Austin, & making him “Better. Stronger. Faster.” (bet the show music is playing in your head now. LOL!)

    Ironically, I often think of that line when thinking of Spock. He was smarter, stronger, imminently logical and compassionate. I wouldn’t say I would like to “be” Spock as I have no desire to work in outer space, but I definitely have always wished I was that strong, smart and logical, etc.

    RE: the strength–he once pounded a big computer into oblivion with one strike of his fist. There have been times I’ve been tempted with those contraptions. 😎

    I also wouldn’t have minded being a Cartwright & living on the Ponderosa.

    I’d love to roam the hills with Lassie, too!

      Spock is an excellent choice! I remember the scene you mentioned, beating the computer. Awesome…

      Another character I’d like to be, if only for a day, is Yoda. There’s many things about 2026 I could just make disappear with a wave of my hand. (However, I wouldn’t like seeing those ears in the mirror…) 🙂

  3. I’d love to be Mark Twain in Roughing It. So many great experiences in those heady times as a pioneer traveling out west, including exploring pristine Lake Tahoe, working as a newspaper reporter in Virginia City, NV, in 1863 during the silver mining boom years, then on to San Francisco. Plus, I’d love to be as good a writer and humorist as him. Impossible goal, but I’m having fun trying.

    • I worked in the Virginia City, Gold Hill, Silver City and Tahoe area back in the early 60s. Even that late it was still very beautiful area and fun and thrilling to live and work in.

      Not familiar with that series, but I did look at what Wikipedia had to say about the author:

      “Arthur Michell Ransome was an English author, intelligence agent, and journalist.”

      Now THAT caught my attention…right up my alley as far as reading/movies.

  7. I do like James Bond. The Sean Connery Bond’s. As written, Bond is not the nicest person.

    Ford Prefect. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I have my towel and am ready to go.

    It took a minute. Buckaroo Banzai. Who doesn’t want to be a Rock star, physicist, neurosurgeon, saver of the planet?

  8. So many great choices.

    I’ll go with two—either the Little Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, or the not-so little Cajun sleuth, Benoit Blanc. Both are in the greatest detectives category and always ID the murderer, with style and verve.

      Now, why didn’t I think of him? Along with Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, and Alcott, I think I read everything Dame Agatha wrote before I even graduated high school.

  9. I would like to have tea with that shrewd old sleuth, Miss Marple, and meet Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Even if Holmes was a bit of a misogynist.
    Last but not least, Mark Twain. I’m from Missouri and a great admirer of his writing. He was an amazing public speaker, and made $10,000 for a speech.

    • Oh yes, Elaine, we can’t forget Miss Marple. Another of my faves as a teenager.

      Holmes was a bit of an egoist, but a charming one, so I’ll let the rest go.

      I’m a Star Trek fan, and there were some episodes (I think more than one) in which Data played at being Holmes. Very entertaining.

  10. I think being the character Jason Bourne would be very interesting if you could have his capabilities without having to live in his situation.

    • Oh, yes! We have those movies & they’re some of my favorites.

      For me, the more action the better, as long as the bad guys get what’s coming to them and the good guys get to give it to ’em!
