As TKZers, it goes without saying that we are all very skilled…at something, I’m sure.
But, the question for the day is not what skill(s) you already possess, either naturally or after years of dedicated blood, sweat, and tears—but what skill you’d like to have.

So, here goes: If a genie popped out of your water bottle and offered to imbue you instantly with any one skill, what skill would you choose?
Here’s my answer.
I would like to possess an unerring skill to discern the motives of people who cross my path–and say or do things that make no sense. Lots of that going around.
Nature is so much easier to figure out, right? The lion wants to eat me, and the mantis is trying to figure out how much I weigh…so she can eat me. 🙂

If that genie ever pops up in front of me, life is going to get very interesting in the Gorman household, yessirree Bob!

Your turn! What skill do you want?
Play piano like Gershwin or Chico Marx. Sing like Howard Keel or Gordon MacRae.
Hi Jim!
Music–yes!
I’m a vocalist (since about age 14), but never learned an instrument. I started piano lessons once but didn’t follow through. Wish I had. 🙁
Have a great weekend.
Great question. And loved your answer.
I’d have to give it some thought to see what deep response I would give, but off the cuff, the first thing that popped into my head when I read your question was that I’d like to have the ability to play bluegrass banjo. It’s such a fun instrument and brings joy to the hearer (well, to some hearers. I find that banjo is an instrument that people either love or hate. There doesn’t seem to be much middle ground).
Alternately, after last night’s mostly sleepless night, my 2nd answer would be the skill to sleep at least 7 hours a night every night without effort. LOL!
Happy Friday, All!
Hi Brenda,
…the skill to sleep at least 7 hours a night every night without effort.
Oh, heck yeah! At this point in time, I’m lucky if I manage 4-5 hours every OTHER night. Sheesh!
And another music lover…fantastic!
Have a good one.
At first, I thought I would like the ability to play guitar (and yes, BK, bluegrass banjo, 😁), better…
…but, upon reflection, I’d change that a bit to have the patience to learn to play better so that I can experience the joy of continued and successful learning and effort…
Good morning George!
I really like your answer. The art of learning and practicing, especially music (I’m biased…) is a huge part of the pleasure. I recall hours spent alone in the sound rooms of the music department at the college I attended–way more satisfying than learning some obscure detail from my history class!
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day…
I’ve never been able to sing. Would be nice to have that skill. Or is it a talent?
Hmm…a little of both, I think, Terry.
I inherited the talent from my mother (and my three kiddos inherited it from me), but I also had to learn to read and interpret music. However, I grew up singing along with my favorite records, so that tells me even natural talent must be honed.
Anyway, I think the genie can hand out skill or talent. He’s a genie, right? 🙂
Have a great weekend!
This sounds weird but I’d like to be able to do math in my head. Math was always my worst subject in school and I never understood it. Now, though, with prices changing sometimes by the hour, I’d like to know how much per ounce or pound something costs to figure of whether the giant economy size is really a better buy than the smaller size.
Oh, yeah, I’d also like to fly. Without a plane, that is.
Hi Debbie!
I’m with you on the math. Most mysterious subject in school, right? My brother has a PhD in applied mathematics. I’ve often thought we really aren’t from the same parents. 🙂
Oh, yeah, I’d also like to fly. Without a plane, that is. Now, THAT’S more like it! See ya up there…
I love to sing, but since I can’t carry a tune in a bucket even if it didn’t have a hole in it, I’d love to be able to do that.
Hi Patricia!
I’d love to be able to dance, but…well, let’s just say we won’t go there.
My dad had that bucket. Couldn’t sing but one note, just a monotone. But ya know what? My Mom, my sister, and my older brother sang in our church choir, and Dad refused to be left out. The choir director let him join and put him in the back row–monotone and all–and Dad loved it!
Thanks for dropping in this morning…have a good one.
I
I probably should’ve put down dancing since I dance like Elaine on Sinefield…
🤣🤣
I would love to have an eidetic memory, especially for quotes.
Hi Dale,
Didn’t think about that one. I’m always trying to remember stuff I’ve read or seen, but most of the time it just gets lost in space. (Don’t tell anyone, K?) 🙂
Have a great day, my friend!
I play the piano (a little and poorly), but I would love to be able to play Rhapsody in Blue the way Gershwin played it accompanied by George Szell and the Cleveland orchestra.
Hi Kay! And did I say “Welcome Back”?
One of the most beautiful musical pieces ever for sure. Right up there, in my book, with Debussy, Strauss, and Mozart.
Have a great day, my friend!
The Kill Zone Eclectic Orchestra seems to be shaping up!
For me drawing, both with real pens and computers. Drawing very well. I tried to get oldest child to peruse drawing as a career. They are good, but didn’t feel they would be that good.
Hi Alan,
Yes, all we need now is a Kazoo…any takers?
My mother was an artist as well as a vocalist. I have some of her paintings. She was very good. When we were young, sometimes she’d sit with us while we watched TV–with her sketch pad–and create pencil drawings of us. I truly wish I had that sketch pad.
