“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.” – George R.R. Martin
Do you have a favorite reading spot? Is it seasonal? If so, where do you read in the off-season?
Do you have a ritual, like sitting in a certain comfy chair or prepping with a nice cup of tea?
1. Bed
2. Recliner in my office
I need to put my feet up when I read.
Me too, Terry. Chocolate’s always nice, too. 😉
Oh! This is one I’m looking forward to figuring out. I just finally was able to move out of the apartment from hell into a more relaxing space. I don’t yet know where my perfect reading space will be but I suspect it will be while draped over my nice comfy Lazy Boy recliner that I now can actually have out and use!
Bur really, because time is so sparse, I read whenever & wherever I can. That’s why I’m so grateful for the Kindle. Carrying a ton of books on the go is so easy now.
Can’t read in bed because the minute I climb into bed, I go to sleep.
I can’t read in bed, either, BK. Congrats on the move! Sounds like you’ll find the perfect reading spot in no time.
We converted my daughter’s old bedroom into a combination guest room/den. I like to sit there and read for an hour or so before I go to bed, preferably with the window open if the weather permits.
Runner-up is to sit on the patio with a cool beverage in the summer, if I can find a way to consistently keep the bugs from eating me alive. There are downsides to living right next to a wooded area. Very few–maybe only this one–but they exist.
Agreed, Dana! I would love to read on the deck in the late afternoon/early evening, but the bugs are vicious. We’re hoping to screen it in this year and buy a floating fountain that’ll move the water in our pond. Mosquitos love stagnant water, and we don’t have nearly enough bats to eat them all. 🙂
Your converted den sounds lovely. Happy reading!!!
Bed
Bathroom (cliche I know)
Living room chair.

More and more, wherever I need to wait on a computer to update. Kindle on the phone at work.
It sounds like as long as you’re reading, you’re happy. I can relate, Alan. Happy reading!!!
Mine is very much like that shown in the picture. And since I live in L.A., I can be out there 360 days out of the year!
Lucky you, Jim!!! My brother-in-law lives near Orange, I think, with a weekend getaway cabin on Big Bear. I keep telling my husband we should plan to visit one of these days. Until then, I’ll live vicariously through you. 🙂
I am as nonritualistic in the rest of my life as I am religious. The bigger problem is for me to find a book that will suck me in and make me forget my surroundings.
You’re reading the wrong authors, then. 😉
Office
Bedroom
Bathroom
Not necessarily in that order 🙂
As long as you’re reading, you’re happy. Love it, Phil!
The floor, propped up on my elbows. Hey, it’s cooler down there. (I live in Virginia, not HOT hot, but hot enough.) In the middle of winter I’ll burrow into the sofa with an afghan or two draped over me.
Hahahahaha. I can’t wait to complain about the heat. We’ve had a weird spring this year. Happy reading, Priscilla!
I have a whole ritual of getting ready for bed. Dim lights, hot shower, cuddling with my pups and a good book. I read every day.
I also love audio books & listen in bed in the dark until I fall asleep. It’s like someone reading me a bedtime story.
Your ritual sounds delightful, Jordan. Happy reading, my friend. xo
I read in my car quite a bit (not while I’m driving). I also read on (not in) the bed when I’m in hotels. Beggars can’t be choosers I guess. So long as I’m comfortable, location makes no difference.
A man who’s easy to please. Love it, Carl. Happy reading!!!
