Whenever the “boys in the back room” go on strike and fresh writing ideas are nowhere to be found, social media can sometimes provide a quick injection of inspiration. It can also function as a needed cattle prod to getting off one’s lazy caboose.
A late-night surfing safari turned up a few of these little gems from social media cicerones:
From the “Thing Could Be Worse” files
How writers should handle bad reviews
Thanks, we think
Instead of angsting over your inner clouds, spread a little sunshine
And know this: we are all in this together
What about you? Do you ever turn to the web for uplift or creative inspiration? Any good sources you can share with us?
Thanks, Kathryn. You cited one of my favorite Twitter accounts, @AdvicetoWriters. Jon Winokur is the author of both Writers on Writing (a book of such quotes) and The Portable Curmudgeon, which is a go-to read these days.
He has the BEST “morning musings” on Twitter, agreed! Thanks, Jim!
Just tapped into Mr. Winokur on Twitter. Thanks for the mention. Looking good.
Hahahahaha. That last meme cracks me up. Thanks for the laughs, Kathryn! Social media can be a great source of inspiration. Writer friends send me links to articles they’ve come across in their research all the time, and some are downright bizarre. This past weekend someone sent me an article about a Tokyo restaurant who serves human flesh. Obviously it’s fake news, but it was an interesting read nonetheless. Here’s the link: https://steemit.com/food/@jomano1975/they-open-the-first-restaurant-of-human-meat-in-the-world
I should probably add the link that proves it’s fake news. http://www.alexkwa.com/the-human-meat-restaurant-in-japan-is-fake/
Ew, just the thought of it gave me the creeps. Social media shares are a two-edged sword, indeed. Thanks, Sue!
I’ll have the salad bar, thank you.
My barely-open eyes read the second from the last example as:
“Make less than $10,000 a year being an author *IN* a small business.”
After coffee, I reread it correctly: “…being an author *IS* a small business” … and I can still make less than $10,000 a year!
Spotted on FB: “There’s a special place in he’ll for auto-correct.”
Hahaha. Love the “Spotted on FB” quote, Debbie!
I’ll check Facebook and surf the Net. I sometimes resort to cat videos to soothe my troubled soul.
