Reader Friday: Time Travel

You have a time machine that will let you travel to a place and time of your choosing, past or future. Where would you go, and why?

  1. It being the 4th of July and all, I would like to go back to Philadelphia, the summer of 1787, and sit on on the Constitutional Convention. I’d love to have a beer with Ben Franklin and especially have a long talk with the smartest of them all, James Madison.

  2. I would travel back to 1830 and buy an ass load of gold and bring it all back with me to 1987 when me and my husband were married. It would be fun to see how differently we would have lived had we not been dirt poor. lol

  3. Late 1950s Scotland where I could have had a tumbler of single malt with Alistair MacLean and talked with him about South by Java Head.

  4. One proviso: I take all I have lived and learned with me back to my childhood and use it to map my road into the life I always have wanted, that of a successful author. Something like the movies, Peggy Sue Got Married plus Groundhog Day.

I’m not unhappy with my life as it is. Just want to see how I would act and react to the changed circumstances.

  5. I’d like to go back to Elizabethan England and see a Shakespeare play at the Globe Theater — but not with the groundlings. Then I’d want to come back to the present — quickly.

  6. hrm…so many places to see … can’t pick just one.
I’ll have to make it a tour.

    1. 8th day after creation, just to proof of which side of the creation is right.
    2. 1 month before Noah’s flood to see just how bad it really was & to see a Nephilim
    3. Tower of Babel, 1 minute after the language confusion to see their expressions when they suddenly can’t understand each other.
4.Kingdom of David – to hear him play harp & sing
    5. Galilee 30 AD – to meet the Messiah face to face
    6. Ireland 450ish AD to listen to Patrick teach
    7. eastern British isles 800 – to see a real viking raid (from a safe & quickly escapable vantage)
    8. 1215 – meet G. Khan & hopefully not get killed
    9. 1300s China- to see the Great Wall being built
    10. 1847 Utah – to hear the first concert of the Norman Snabertacle choir, & maybe meet Norman himself
    11. 1890ish Denmark – meet my Great-Great-Grandpa & find out why moved to U.S. literally overnight…and to find out why he had so many passports in his name from different countries.

any that’s a tiny sample of where I’ll go if my cousin Leonard ever brings back my time machine.
