  1. I saw someone almost die from an asthma attack and it caused me to hyperventilate. it started a pattern of hyperventilating and I had to learn how to breathe correctly again. Crazy, right?

Writing is the same way. I wrote for years in a vaccuum — no other writers nearby and no internet at the time, so I kept making the same mistakes because there was no one to tell me I was doing it wrong. Once I ventured out to conferences and writing workshops, and gained critique partners, my writing drastically improved. The only thing I can say about those early years is, it instilled the “write every day” habit in me.

  2. Having been through a rather traumatic bout with a pulmonary embolism two months ago, I appreciate my ability to breathe so much more than I did before. Through the brain fog of recovery, I am coming back to the desire to breathe words onto the page, no matter what they might be. I hope I can actually put them on the page soon.
