Valentine’s Day is important to me.
Why? you ask.
Because of chocolate, of course! No, just kidding . . . sort of.
From Wikipedia:
Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine,[1] is celebrated annually on February 14.[2] It originated as a Christian feast day honoring a martyr named Valentine, and through later folk traditions it has also become a significant cultural, religious and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world..[3][4]
(Heavy on commercial, I think.)
The question I have for you, burning in my soul this morning, is this: What is your favorite Valentine’s Day memory?
For me, it was and still is all of the Valentines my ankle biters made throughout their school journeys. Precious, every one. Here’s one of my favorites:

This is still on my desk in my office. Created circa 1980.
To be honest, I’m not certain it was a Valentine’s Day gift for me, but I think it was. She was about five.
So, over to you, TKZers!
What’s your favorite memory surrounding Valentine’s Day? Is it a story? A gift? Do tell…
And I hope you all have a sweet one today to add to your memories!
I celebrate Wallenstein’s Day instead, which falls on 24 September.

Good morning, J…I had to do a search for information on Wallenstein’s Day. I’d never heard of it (and your link, for some reason, did not work for me…)
Have a great day!
There’s the touching story of the Valentine Al Capone sent to the Bugs Moran gang on February 14, 1929. Brings a tear to your eye.
Okay, JSB, as in Capone reached out and touched Chicago’s Northside gang? I’d forgotten about that. I wonder if he sent chocolate as well as rounds down the firing lanes.
Well, enough of that! 🙂
I hope you and Mrs. Bell have a great day.
Chocolate is important on Valentine’s Day and every day. My favorite flavor on earth. 😎
My favorite Valentine’s Day Memory is different than most and it’s actually not a memory, since I wasn’t even alive at the time, but my favorite thing about February 14 is that on February 14, 1912, Arizona became a state. It was a childhood dream fulfilled to move out west to the mountains and I love my Arizona.
So have some chocolate to celebrate Arizona Statehood Day as well.
Morning, Brenda.
I didn’t know that about the great state of Arizona. And how cool that you get to celebrate there every year. What a gift!
Have a good one, and don’t count the chocolates you eat. That’s also a rule. 🙂
No particular Valentine memories but whenever See’s Candy is involved, that’s a holiday!
Agreed, Debbie!
My Dad always gave my Mom chocolates on Valentine’s Day. And the rule was she didn’t have to share. Another sweet memory for me.
Have a See’s Day, my friend!
At our school Valentine’s Day dance, my boyfriend stopped in the middle of a song and slipped a promise ring on my finger. The timing probably had more to do with his hating to dance than a planned romantic moment, but it worked, because we’re still together 53 years later. 🥰
Hi Becky. I love your story! 53 years…I’m in awe.
Have a great day!
I married my first husband on Valentine’s Day, so… no good memories. For decades after I divorced him, I never even acknowledged the day. Someday, I hope to make this day mean something special. But I do love chocolate!
Hi Sue!
Understand completely. Maybe making the day special again involves giving some chocolate away to someone who needs it…just a thought.
(But be sure you keep some back for yourself!)
Have a good one…
I remember an electronic tire pressure gauge. (Accompanied by flowers and chocolate.) Showed the Hubster was thinking of my safety, which is one of the ways guys show affection.
Ahh…Terry, what a sweet guy!
Thanks for sharing this morning, and have a chocolatey day.
🙂
In high school, the senior class was selling valentine carnations. I sent two. Shelly wrote a sweet note in my yearbook. I had to explain to my dad why she mentioned VD. The other girl had a boyfriend at the time. We eventually started going out. Our children think it is funny that she still has the 40 year old valentine. I have not asked Shelly if she still has hers. I kinda doubt it. That was about as far as that relationship went.
Good morning, Alan!
Sweet story. I think you should ask Shelly. The answer *might* surprise you! (Or not…)
Hope you have a great day!
I don’t remember any particular Valentine’s Day event, but anytime there’s chocolate involved, I’m all in.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
I’m with you, Kay!
And it doesn’t have to be 2/14…Rule #3.
🙂
Have a good one, my friend!
Valentine’s Day began hitting me in the heart when I met my future wife, at an after school job in October, 1978. Our first Valentine’s Day in 1979 was very special, and they’ve remained so ever since.
I’d say chocolate is central to Valentine’s Day to me, but chocolate is central, full stop 🙂 Fortunately, I married a chocolate lover.
Hi Dale!
I love your story…what is it about love and chocolate? They just go together, don’t they?
I hope you two chocolate lovers have a sweet day!
My husband and I got married on Valentines Day 37 years ago today. We’d only known each other for 3 months, but somehow we knew it would last. We got married at my in-laws’ house in a brief, small ceremony followed by a much bigger, louder party. While some might think it was a romantic gesture on my husband’s part suggesting Valentines Day, but he was actually being practical. He said it would guarantee he never forgot the date. Since then we’ve had some memorable Valentines Days marking milestones like a vacation in Maui for the 25th and one in Costa Rica for the 35th. And no, he’s never forgotten our anniversary!
Wow, Kelly…there are some similarities between you and us.
We got married on 1/23/88, also 37 years ago, second marriage for both of us. And, no joke, we met on 11/7/87, 2 1/2 months prior! And somehow, we knew it would last. We got married at my parents’ home, very small gathering, including all seven of our combined children. (It was small, but loud.)
Your husband’s a smart man for sure, picking Valentine’s Day so he wouldn’t forget.
Thanks for stopping by, and Happy Valentineversary! 🙂
Forty-one years ago today, I proposed to the most beautiful woman in Northern Virginia. And she said yes!
Ahh shucks, John…you’re a mush under all that tough-guy skin!
🥰
But we love it, don’t we KZers?
Have a great day!
