Reader Friday-Happy Author’s Day!

I want this room in my house…

Who knew?

Apparently lots of folks! Here’s the link I found to Author’s Day when I did a search on “weird holidays”.

Straight from the website:

“November 1 is Author’s Day, a day to honor all your favorite authors and to encourage any writers in your life to keep working on their magnum opus.

Who will you encourage?

Writing is hard and writing a short story or a book is even harder. So thank your favorite authors for writing your favorite books and help budding writers and authors around you in any way you can so that they can achieve their dreams.”

Okay, TKZers, how will you celebrate today?

I’ll start by thanking each and every one of you who have taught, encouraged, and entertained me in my author/reader journey.

Over to y’all!

  1. How boring would life be without writers! Makes me cringe to think of not having books to read–both reading for pleasure and for formal education. Can you imagine if the only thing you could look forward to in a classroom is a tedious lecture, with no books to enhance your learning? No summer breaks with books? No thanks.

Thanks for this post. It reminds us that writers and their product, awesome books, is one of the things we take for granted in life.

    • Hi Brenda!

You are so right-How boring would life be without writers! Without the opportunity to read, what in the world would I do with my afternoons? It’s hard even to imagine a world without books. I hope I never have to live in that world.

Thanks for dropping in…and happy Author’s Day to ya!

    • Good morning, Patricia!

My sentiments exactly…and isn’t it cool that even though there are thousands of readers out there, our “happy place” will never become crowded? 🙂

      Have a great weekend!

  2. Fun tidbit, Deb!

Thanks to the generous writing community for sharing knowledge. I’ve benefited from the helping hands of many mentors.

Plus the education and enjoyment of books for my entire life.

    • Well said, my friend.

I have a local author friend who helps chair a group with two other published authors. The group consists of writers who want to be published. These three ladies give of their time critiquing, mentoring, and encouraging their group. I’ve visited the group twice, once as a speaker and once taking part in a panel discussion. I was so impressed with how this group lifts each other up. My hat’s off to those mentors.

Thanks for stopping by this morning!

  3. Books are life. I love my author friends and my reader friends. Interesting people one and all. The first novel I remember reading was a Three Investigators book. The Talking Skull. I still love mysteries and thrillers. As a child books took me all over the world, taught me all sorts of things, made me laugh, made me dream. My deepest desire as a writer is to entertain and maybe someday allow someone to dream.

    Happy authors day!!!

    • Hi Douglas!

I gotta say, The Talking Skull sounds like a great read. What a title!

I started reading whole books when I was about 9 or 10 and never looked back. I’m a confirmed non-traveler, but stories take me where I want to go. (That’s the tag line on my website, so you know how ingrained it is in my psyche!) 🙂

Love this: My deepest desire as a writer is to entertain and maybe someday allow someone to dream.

Thanks for stopping by, and happy Author’s Day to you, too…

  4. Happy Authors Day, Deb and everyone at TKZ!

Books have been such an important part of my life, and I’m grateful to all the writers who have entertained, edified, and challenged me. As an author myself now, I’m hoping to pay that forward.

Here’s a slightly edited quote from Dr. Seuss:
“Books to the ceiling, books to the sky. My pile of books is a mile high. How I love them! How I need them! I’ll have lots of wrinkles by the time I read them.”

    • Thanks, Kay!

Paying it forward…I totally agree, and I’m sure the rest of the tribe here at TKZ would agree.

And the Seuss slightly-edited quote is perfect, my friend.

Have a great Author’s Day, you and your husband!

    • Hi Elaine!

I echo your thanks on both fronts. And I also want to thank you. Your posts and comments have helped me navigate this sometimes scary world of publishing. So back atcha!

      Happy Author’s Day!
