Reader Friday-Words From Down Under

I ran across this on social media and was fascinated. (Guess it’s good for something, right?)

Perhaps you’ve heard of this, but I hadn’t.

A Kangaroo Word is a word/synonym within a word (my definition). For instance, the word chicken. Chicken contains a synonym for itself-cHickEN. That’s part of the definition, as you can see from the graphic taken from the website I explored. I might add also that the letters of the synonym within the word must be in order, but they need not be grouped together.

Other kangaroo words are:ย  MAscuLinE, BLOssOM, and hoNOuraBLE.

Fun, huh? Go here to find more:

List of kangaroo words

I tried to come up with my own, and so far, I’ve come up with PUPpy.

TKZers, maybe you can jazz us with a few of your own! Let’s have some fun…

  1. I’d never heard of that before either. I’m sure at some point one will randomly jump out at me now. LOL!

    • Hi Brenda.

Yup. You’re right. Yesterday, I was reading a novel by a favorite author (one of our own TKZers, I might add) and I ran across a couple. It seems they’re everywhere now.

      Have a good one!

    • Good morning, Debbie. I hope you check back in after that coffee.

Here’s an easy one for you. I’m pretty sure lots of folks share this with you and me.

Our own name! Debra, Debbie, Deborah, Deborah . . . we are synonyms unto ourselves! Ha!

      Have a great Friday…

  2. I love word games. I read the post just before we were leaving to meet friends for breakfast (eat), and I was reading all the road signs on the way to the restaurant (eat) to try to come up with something.

    Fun.
